All the World's a Stage - Aspects of 18th and 19th Century Art
Both in England and Europe the society of the 18th and 19th centuries were
to be found at theatres and music halls. Leading figures of the day including
royalty and patrons of the arts mixed with those of lower classes as they
thronged to watch not only the performance of the actors and actresses but
to observe society at play. The spectacle on and off stage brought colour
and vibrancy into their lives.
The Titian Gallery invites you to see the artist's view of life in oil paintings
and watercolours, for as Shakespeare wrote, "All the world's a stage".
